SeaTrepid International is part of a group of companies who operate a diverse business portfolio that enables them to support clients’ needs with robotic solutions in sea, air, and land.
Originally founded in 2003 in southern Pennsylvania, applied robotics solutions company SeaTrepid International started out doing Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) integration work for the United States Coast Guard, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy’s Undersea Warfare Centre, and numerous other government entities.
When Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita devastated the Gulf of Mexico in 2005, Seatrepid relocated to Louisiana to offer optimal service for their oil and gas customers. Now based on a 6.25-acre campus in the small parish of Robert, the organisation today supports a global list of clients in the commercial, military, municipal, public safety, and scientific spaces.
As an organisation, a key goal is the development and adoption of tools and equipment that lower any risk to SeaTrepid personnel. One of those tools? TracPlus.
Here’s General Manager David Selby on the benefits they’ve seen from incorporating TracPlus into their operations.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company. What do you do, and how do you use TracPlus on a daily basis? What assets are you tracking?
SeaTrepid International is the parent company of SeaTrepid International Offshore ROV, Remote Inspection Technologies (RIT) Terrestrial Robotic Services, and SeaTrepid DeepSea (SDS) Deepwater Services. Our companies operate a diverse business portfolio that enables us to support our clients’ needs with robotic solutions in sea, air, and land.
We use TracPlus units to track real-time locations of our most critical assets: our people. TracPlus is utilized during specific times when our RIT small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS)/drone division is called into service as a part of an emergency response or disaster recovery support for various clients.
How did you become aware of TracPlus, and when did you begin using us? What was involved in your decision to become a TracPlus customer?
We knew when we were about to ask our employees to willingly go into harm’s way that we needed to assure them we could identify their positions in areas with extremely limited to no communications.
Having TracPlus in our pocket was excellent, especially as our client base during these situations continued to diversify, and some of our safety mitigation plans called for more details.
What TracPlus features and functionalities are the most important for you, and why?
Our ability to track real-time positional location of our personnel from STI’s international base of operations in Louisiana is critical.
The ability to track routes our people traveled to get to their locations gives our operations department a sound safety measure, and it gives our two-person teams assurance and peace of mind that should circumstances dictate, the office is aware of their position and able to direct support in a timely manner.
What would you say are the biggest strengths of the TracPlus system?
Proven, compact, rugged, easy to use, easy to integrate, and accurate. Reliable positional information, wherever our clients’ needs take us.
What key issues for you have TracPlus helped with?
The cost-saving ability to deactivate each unit individually (during forecasted periods of non-use) as our current business dictates.
Anything else you’d like us to know? We’d love to hear it!
STI is a satisfied customer. We’re staying with TracPlus! Those with a similar business model to ours that aren’t currently using TracPlus should look into it. Our bet is that they will quickly become a satisfied customer, too!
