Paradise Helicopters offer custom charters, commercial services, virtual education experiences (aimed at enriching student curriculum within the local community), and sightseeing tours encompassing island-to-island expeditions, waterfall flights and hikes, and lava and rainforest exploration.

Since its founding in 1997, Paradise Helicopters has grown to become the largest locally owned and operated purveyor of helicopter tours in Hawai’i. Now an award-winning business with accolades from the likes of Tripadvisor and the Sustainable Tourism Association of Hawai’i, Paradise operates a fleet of Bell helicopters flown by highly experienced, trusted pilots — including former Marine One pilots serving United States presidents.

 

Paradise offers custom charters, commercial services, virtual education experiences (aimed at enriching student curriculum within the local community), and sightseeing tours encompassing island-to-island expeditions, waterfall flights and hikes, and lava and rainforest exploration. They fly customers to some of Hawai’i’s most private and remote locations, all with the goal of immersing tourists in the true spirit of the islands.

 

To get a better sense of how Paradise uses TracPlus within their business, we chatted with Director of Safety and Standardisation Dan Malakie, who oversees the integration of our tools with Paradise’s fleet and daily operations. Here’s what he had to say.

 

When and why did you begin using TracPlus?

We became aware of TracPlus during our annual visits to the HAI Heli-Expo. TracPlus proved to be easy to use and cost-effective, and it allowed us to capture the appropriate data from our flight routes.

 

What TracPlus features and functionalities are the most important for you, and why?

Being able to flight-follow our aircraft at any moment has allowed us to ensure seamless flight operations. By knowing if a flight will be early or late, we can adjust subsequent flights, ground transportation, and fuel requests to accommodate accordingly.

 

What would you say are the biggest strengths of the TracPlus system?

The biggest strength is always having situational awareness of our aircraft.

 

As a company, we’re prepared to adjust our operations to provide the best customer service for our customers. By knowing the exact location of all our aircraft, we can quickly make decisions to assure follow-on flights are completed on time. The system also allows us the ability to quickly respond should a precautionary landing or mishap occur. 

 

What key issues for Paradise Helicopters has TracPlus helped with?

TracPlus has helped mitigate downtime from RockAIR devices by supplying additional connectivity options. When experiencing interruptions or data issues,   customer service response time and quality have always been outstanding.

 

Have we helped you fly safer and smarter?

Most definitely. TracPlus has allowed us to fly safer and smarter by enabling pilots and staff to debrief in-flight concerns, ensuring pilots make corrections on later flights.

 

From a safety perspective, having real-time flight-locating capabilities allows us to always be ready to support our flight crews in the event of any necessary emergency response.
