Canterbury Aero Club

The New Zealand based Canterbury Aero Club (CAC) is the largest aero club in the country, and the second largest flight training school. It has had a long and proud history, originating at the Wigram airfield base in 1928. Now their main base is located at Christchurch International Airport, and they also use West Melton and Rangiora airfields which are only a short flight away.

CAC operate around 30 aircraft, ranging from training aircraft, through to aerobatic, tail-wheel and twin engine machines. With this varied fleet, CAC are well positioned to serve the needs of both the training school and aeroclub students.

When CAC were looking for a replacement aircraft tracking system, they ran extensive side-by-side trials of the different competitive options. After the evaluation completed mid 2017, CAC selected v2track to install in their fleet. CAC’s CEO, Jeremy Ford, found the v2track “product reliable” and “the data is very accurate” while having “competitive running costs”. The hybrid tracker has “great coverage, even in mountainous terrain” which is an important consideration due to the Aero Clubs geographical location. It is serving their purpose well – not just in tracking the aircraft’s position for safety and post-flight reviews, but also automatically monitoring chargeable time to help with the accounting and billing processes.

“v2 keeps our members and pilots safe. This is key for me and because I trust the product and it gives me comfort in knowing we are keeping our people safe.”

Jeremy Ford, CEO
