Welcome to the team, TracPlus Interns!

TracPlus has recently brought on six hugely talented interns to help us further grow our product. We believe the future of tech is in the hands of the next generation — and it’s this generation that will help us achieve our goals at TracPlus.

We spoke to our interns about what drives them, their experience so far, and why they chose TracPlus.

Agnieszka Sieradzka

My name is Agnieszka and I am a Full Stack Developer here at TracPlus, and I have a background in Computational physics research. What excites me about this role is my ability to help people — I know it's cliche, but it's true!

I love research, coding, science and doing things that matter. At TracPlus I can do most of these above plus I have the certainty that what I am going is useful and will serve people for many years. I am looking forward to better understanding the needs of the present market, developing my programming skills, applying physics wherever it's possible and getting used to Kiwis' accent.

I think it's quite amazing seeing how much the company cares about its customers. TracPlus is dynamic and always eager to improve products. It's great to see how TracPlus works from the inside: people exchanging ideas and working together. A big plus is also seeing people working remotely. For TracPlus distance doesn't matter.

Jake Duncan-Carraher

My Name is Jake and I am an Intern at TracPlus. I have a Diploma of Web and Mobile Application Development and a Certificate in SQL Server Administration and Support. I was excited about the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a growing tech company that has a global footprint that was also based in my hometown of Dunedin. After moving away it was the perfect opportunity to come back and be apart of a great company. The company has plenty of projects on the go and some awesome plans for the future and I am just happy to help the team progress these projects anyway I can.

What surprises me the most about TracPlus is that from a small city like Dunedin, we have a global impact. It's exciting to work alongside such a small but dedicated team.

Rebecca Wilson

I studied a Bachelor of Applied Science at Otago; my major was Geographic Information Systems and I have a minor in Computer Science (that’s a mouthful). I originally wanted to join a Dunedin tech company or start-up, but they were mainly advertising for people with experience or I didn’t quite have the skills for the job. The intern position at TracPlus allowed me to use my skill set from my degree but also has given me an opportunity to gain some invaluable knowledge, skills and experience from the team. I am looking forward to being able to apply my newly learnt skills to my work and communicating with all the different customers we have, to produce value for the company.

The range of clients that we support here at TracPlus amazed me, as well as the growth the company is showing. We support customers all over the world doing a whole range of tasks and it’s super exciting knowing that we may be contributing to the support they are receiving.

Oscar Mcnoe

I completed a Bachelor of Science at Otago University, majoring in Computer Science, minoring in Information Science. The opportunity to get work experience at a tech company in Dunedin is really great, it’s nice to be able to stay in Dunners and do what I want to do. I’m looking forward to working on some real-world software projects and having my work running solve real problems in the real world. It’s exciting to have the opportunity to learn new tools and technologies that I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to learn otherwise.

Sam Mceachern

I moved down from Wellington to join the Dev team here at TracPlus. I recently graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Science. Most of my previous jobs consisted of working in kitchens and doing labour, so working here has been a nice change from that. I was attracted to working at Tracplus for the range of development work available and the range of technologies used. In my time here I hope to get a better grasp of the development process. In the past, I have mainly worked by myself on projects, so I hope to gain insight on how working with others changes the dynamic on a project.

George Alexander

Prior to being at TracPlus, I studied a Bachelor of Information Technology at Otago Polytechnic. I was attracted to this position as TracPlus looked like an exciting company to work for and a great way to get some hands-on industry experience.

I'm most looking forward to putting the skills learnt during my studies to work as well as gaining new skills working on real-life projects.

The thing that has surprised me most about the company is that people aren't necessarily limited to one role, and people are encouraged to gain experience in multiple areas of the company.
