TracPlus Saves Lives in New Guinea

14 January 2011

The new SHOUT Nano handheld tracking device from TracPlus has been credited with saving the life of a copper mining crew member in Papua New Guinea.

An exploration team working in an isolated area was hit by a massive storm that smashed their cell phone tower and other equipment. One worker was trapped among the wreckage.

Without cell phone contact or other operable communications equipment, the team had to rely on the Nano to call for help.

Within minutes of the team initiating the distress call, the company's US-based global safety officer was notified and, in the early hours of a Sunday morning, he initiated a helicopter rescue. Within two hours the seriously injured worker and the crew were airlifted from the jungle to safety.

The Nano is a hand-held, battery-powered device that tracks the user anywhere on the planet via the Iridium TM satellite network, provides worldwide text messaging and a 24/7 monitored emergency distress locator and notification service - all in a cell phone sized package.
